CONCORD 2011 has targeted the issues as follows –

  • Road safety measures – Is Govt. / or Non – Govt. organizations taking proper measures.
  • Responsibilities of general mass for prevention of trauma and spinal injury.
  • Inauguration of CONCORD BULL - The journal of SCSWB (The 1st issue).
  • Inauguration of website – www.spinalcordwb.com (In this website, general people can also access and communicate the spine specialists whenever required).

During the last half a decade though the economic growth in India has been significantly improved but the spinal cord injury out of road traffic accident, different industrial and household injuries has really invited challenge in the rapidly changing civilization process.

As the number of trafficis increasing, number of promoting and constructing building is also increasing, the administration and the legal structure of the Government should also modify their strategies accordingly to prevent the incidence of trauma and spinal injury. There is no well documented road safety rule in this state and even the incidence of getting punishment in breaking the traffic systems is also not very remarkable and the result is - road traffic accidents occurring more and more.

Moreover, the inadequacy of comprehensive spinal trauma management system in our state has compounded the problem and forwarding the problem towards darkness and helplessness in the minds of SCI patients. Even after crossing the first decade of 21st century when thousands of kidney transplants and millions of cardiac bypass surgery are a regular service for the society, the nearly 5 lacs of spine related disabled people of this state of West Bengal are till in the darkness of disability out of spinal disorder or trauma.

Spinal cord society of West Bengal through its discussion at CONCORD 2011 demands atleast one complete and comprehensive trauma and spine hospital in this state immediately and strongly demands formulating and implementing the trauma prevention rules at road traffic or construction growth areas.

CONCORD 2009

The first state meet of Spinal Cord Society of West Bengal was organized on 1st February, 2009 in Kolkata at Indian Science Congress Association Hall, Park Circus. We are well aware of the fact that spinal cord diseases and injuries are increasing day to day and the various treatment with medicines, surgery and rehabilitation are rapidly changing. Spinal Cord management needs an integrated treatment approach with updated facilities. The scientific revolution must be recorded, discussed and implemented in our day to day practice.

Our organization has made this effort to arrange this meeting to exchange knowledge and update clinical views on these important issues.

In this meet, very important issues on surgical, conservative and rehabilitative points were discussed and our state expects modern protocols of spinal cord management.
